Why Vacuum Sealed Meats Stay Fresh

You may not have thought about it, but when you get a vacuum sealer, your meats will probably stay fresher longer. Why does this happen? What should I know about these vacuum sealers? These are questions that you may be asking yourself right now.

Many people want to keep their meats tasting good and staying fresh for as long as they can. They may just have trouble realizing how to do that and what the best products are for that purpose. With the rising prices of meat nowadays, people are looking for the best solution to this issue and a vacuum sealer may just be the answer.

Vacuum sealers take the air out of the bag that your meat is stored in, so that the meat stays good and you don’t have a problem with frostbite. Many people don’t realize it, but the meat that you decide to put in your fridge will get frostbite if you have any kind of air in the container that it’s in. This may mean that your high priced meats will not taste right at the time that you want to serve them. This might just ruin your party as well as your day.

You also want to have your meats in a vacuum sealed bag so that you do not have to worry about the meat getting gross and old before it’s time. This may be the main reason that you got the sealer in the first place and why you are using it for your food products. You are probably going to have a better time with keeping your meats fresh and tasting good just because of the vacuum sealing that you may do to your meats.

There are many meats that can be sealed with a vacuum sealer, you just have to go looking in your freezer for them and get them in that nice little bag so that you can use them later on in the week or the month. You are the one that got that nifty little vacuum sealer and you should use it for the foods that you need to keep good - whether it’s meat or it’s other kinds of food that you may have. Take some time to learn about your machine, so that you can get the most out of it and so that you will be happy with it in the long run.

Brazil has voluntarily suspended exports of processed beef to the United States due to inadequacies in Brazil’s inspection system.

Laura Reiser, a spokeswoman for USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, told Meatingplace.com the move followed FSIS’s annual audit of Brazil’s inspection system.

“The FSIS auditors identified issues with record keeping in establishments, oversight of laboratories and previous corrective actions seemed to be de-emphasized,” she said.

FSIS continues to analyze the audit information. Meantime, Brazil must conduct its own assessments and corrective actions.

“FSIS will review the information Brazil provides, conduct follow-up audits then determine whether these exports can resume,” Reiser said.

As a safeguard to diseases such as foot-and-mouth, the United States limits imports of Brazilian beef to processed product.

JBS-Swift & Co.’s proposed acquisitions of Smithfield Beef Group and National Beef Packing Co. should not be allowed, the chairman of the U.S. Senate’s antitrust subcommittee says.

Sen. Herbert Kohl (D-Wis.) sent a letter Tuesday to the Justice Department urging it to block the deals because it would give three U.S. beef packers more than 80 percent control of the market and reduce competition.

“By reducing the number of major buyers for ranchers’ cattle from five to three — and in some regions even one or two — this deal will give the remaining beef processors enormous buying power,” Kohl wrote. “With little choice to whom to sell their cattle, ranchers will increasingly be left in a ‘take it or leave it’ position.”

Kohl said that if the government opts to allow the JBS deals, it should at least force the company to divest Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding LLC, a part of the Smithfield package.

Kohl’s statement comes at the conclusion of his committee’s review of the pending transactions, which included a hearing in May. (See JBS-Swift makes its case at Senate hearing on Meatingplace.com, May 8, 2008.)

The Justice Department has declined to comment on pending cases.
